Louises'

Added this colourway to your order. I think it should work really well with the waffley soaker pattern.

I had a day of sitting on the sofa with my feet up to try and ease the contractions, so was able to crack on with the first soaker.

Dusky rose soaker is now lanolising. I am about to cast on the Burgundy soaker.

Thursday 29 January 2009

I spent the day at the hospital yesterday. I knew the tests would take all day so went armed with a ball of cream aran weight and a ball of pink and lemon variagated aran weight and a size 5 crochet hook.

I knew I wanted to make a warm - very warm - blanket for Baby girl. Inspired by a face puff I made some months ago I decided on this design. It gives a lovely deep ridge to the work, so, in theory, the extra surface area of the garment in the ridged design should trap the air and keep baby girl even warmer. I'm also working each square into the adjoining squares to cut down on sewing time and the possibility of loose ends.

I'm thinking it will be a pram sized blanket, but may make it into a full sized cot blanket. If I can maintain the patience to get it so big ;0)

I bought a new camera today, I haven't worked out how to get the colour balance right or the flash settings yet. Hopefully it will give me clearer photo's for my knitting pattern PDF's

I am waiting on a custom dye order before I can continue with Cassie's and Hanna's order. So will be starting Louise's order tonight. Here are the colours Louise, they are both going to be flower soakers. Watch this space ;0)

KAL Bag

I am amazed at how quickly this bag has knitted up! It has only been a couple of days, but I suppose I have the advantage of being officially on bed rest - which I have interpretated into sitting with your feet up knitting rest!
It hasn't used as much yarn as the pattern called for. I have used about 180g all in all. I'm hoping that this doesn't mean it will shrink into an i-pod cover when it comes to the felting!
I'm also hoping that the slouchy bottom of the bag tidies up with blocking.
I made an i-cord measuring nearly 7 feet. The pattern recommended 5-6 feet, but I would like the strap to go over the shoulder, I hope it doesn't shrink too much.

So how many times in the machine is enough for felting?

I have used two different types of yarn, the block blue has felted to pretty much its maximum, whilst the variagated has only just felted, I daren't risk another cycle in the machine, so I have set it up ready for blocking.

The I-cord now measures about 4 feet - it shrank at will lol!

Wrap Cardigan for Baby Girl

Made this as a quick little bed rest project. It's in a newborn - 3 months size.

Knit-a-long Bag

I'm taking part in a knit-a-long. We are making the booga bag (black sheep bags)

I wound the wool and made the base this eveing before tea, then made a start on the sides as there is absolutely nothing worth wasting electricity on the television for!

Lallypants are born!

Cecily was asking if anyone knew of the stitch she had found, she wanted to make a jumper with it. It was a tuck stitch unique to knitting machines, but the hunt went on for a similar stitch that could be hand knit. The trellis stitch seemed to be closest, so I passed it onto Cecily, she now has the instructions for the stitch to do with as she pleases ;0)

The next day I was taken into hospital, I still had the stitch in mind, I always have a bag of wool in the car big enough for a small emergency project, so when it became apparent I was going to be at the hospital for a while hubby was dispatched to the car for said bag.

The bag had a lovely little ball of Debbie Bliss SoHo in lovely shades of rasberry and purple (gifted to me by kelbel aka minnie O) and a ball of co-ordinating trim. (times like that make me glad I'm so anal!) Baby girl could have been on her way, I wanted to make something for her, but only had enough for booties or a 'soaker' the soaker won out.

I combined my original soaker pattern with band of the new stitch inspired by Cecily and Voila! Lallypants were born (named after the nickname Cecily has been given by her sister).

They were a really nice knit, the pattern is one that is easy to follow and effective looking. The panel gives extra wool in the vital 'wee' zone without being too bulky to be comfortable for baby.

Thankfully the Lallypants were the only thing to be born that day, baby girl is still tucked up safe and warm in mummy and hopefully will stay there for the next 12 weeks.

Bump at 27 weeks

Fluffy Post!

I bought this set from Nikki of Nikki's knitting. It arrived today and is so cute! It has been paired with a Clwt twt bamboo Unigrw and bandana bib. I can't wait to seeit on my baby girl.
I was really surprised when I realised there was more in the package. This lovely pink set! Nikki put a kind note in saying she was sure I could find a good use for it. Thankyou Nikki, I am sure baby girl will look lovely wearing it!

Knitting for BUMP!

We know she's a girl so the knitting and crocheting has taken off like a rocket! We are going to cloth nappy, unless she is premature, (Baby girl has Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation of the lung) then we will just concentrate on getting her strong, and slowly introduce cloth to the hospital!

Baby girl bump's wool stash so far.......

These have been made in 100% pure wool Dazzle Aran BFL, in sherbet colourway from the natural dye studio. I love how soft this yarn is. The natural dyes really suit the yarn.

Hubby likes to choose a yarn for bump projects, he chose this in pinks and white for a newborn dress. I didn't like it at first, but it is growing on me. I'm going to make a flower in the fushia and a ribbon tie for the waist also in fushia. I haven't decided if the booties will be in this mix or in fushia. I am toying with making a soaker in fushia to match the set. I'll see which mood takes my fancy ;)

I have made some little booties and a beret, in between customs
